Mercedes Tarrazon

Experience

A practicing lawyer in Spain and a Consultant with Accordence, Ms. Tarrazon brings a broad experience in arbitration, mediation, and training in the international arena as well as with a solid background in corporate management and governance due to her involvement in family businesses.

She is Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) both in arbitration and in mediation and Distinguished Fellow of the International Academy of Mediators. She has seated as arbitrator among others under the rules of UNCITRAL, ICC and ICDR, being listed also on several panels of arbitrators including CPR, IACAC and WIPO.

Ms. Tarrazon’s sound experience as a mediator is mainly ad hoc, having acted also under the rules of the ICC International ADR Center. She has been member of Dispute Boards as well and has been appointed by the Spanish Government to the ICSID panel of conciliators (2020-2026). She is member of the Mediation Forum of the Spanish Ministry of Justice and coordinator of its Task Group on Quality and Best Practices in Mediation, Ms. Tarrazon is also the chair of the Commission on Mediation. of the Club Español del Arbitraje (CEA).

Among other positions held in the past, she has been member for Spain at the ICC International Court of Arbitration, Vice-Chairwoman of the Inter-American Commercial Arbitration Commission, member of the Board of Management of the CIArb and member of the CPR European Advisory Committee.

A frequent speaker at dispute resolution fora and guest lecturer on arbitration and ADR at several institutions, Mercedes regularly trains lawyers and business people in negotiation and conflict management.

Her scientific activity includes her participation as an expert in the drafting of the European Code of Conduct for Mediators (2004), the direction of the CEA Code of Best Practices in Mediation (2013) and the publication of several articles in specialist journals.

She is fluent in Catalan, Spanish, English, French and Italian. She has also a good knowledge of German and Portuguese. Ms. Tarrazon is listed in Who’s Who Legal Mediation since the list’s inception (2011 to 2020) and in several issues of Who’s Who Legal Arbitration.
